The Yamaha FZ-S Fi V4 as well as the Yamaha FZ Fi are all set to be updated to comply with OBD-2B emission norms soon. We have accessed the homologation document for the two bikes that contains key specifications as well. There has been no change in power, and expect the launch to happen in the coming weeks, well before the OBD-2B enforcement deadline of April 1, 2025.

The two bikes’ 149cc air-cooled fuel-injected engine makes 12.4PS at 7,250rpm and and 13.3Nm at 5,500rpm. The engine remains E20-compatible as before. While these output figures aren’t really segment-leading, the bikes offer great refinement and a fantastic mileage. In fact, we got 70kmpl in the city and 54.33kmpl on the highway in our real-world mileage test.

Apart from the OBD-2B emission compliance, expect Yamaha to offer a few new and/or revised colour schemes to spice things up. The kerb weight (currently 135-136kg, depending on the variant) is likely to remain more or less the same in the upcoming iteration.

At the moment, the Yamaha FZ-S Fi V4 DLX is priced at Rs 1,31,200 for all the six colour schemes (Matte Black, Majesty Red, Metallic Grey, Racing Blue, Cyber Green, Ice Fluo-Vermillion. The non-DLX variants are available in Dark Matte Blue and Matte Black, retailing at Rs 1,30,700. The FZ-Fi, on the other hand, comes in Matte Cyan priced at Rs 1,17,300 while the Metallic Black variant is pegged at Rs 1,16,500. All prices ex-showroom, Delhi. Expect a premium of around Rs 1,000-2,000 for the OBD-2B-compliant iterations.

Even though the 150cc Yamaha FZ range isn’t the most performance packed streetfighter, it wins crucial brownie points by being efficient, smooth and with a design that’s just about sporty enough.

While there has been an 18.51% drop in sales (Year-on-Year) from April 2024 to January 2025, expect the average monthly sales to slowly improve once Yamaha updates the bike on time to comply with the latest regulations. The bike rivals the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, Suzuki Gixxer, Bajaj Pulsar N150, and Hero Xtreme 160R. Following the FZ-range, Yamaha will also update the R15, MT-15 and FZ-X lineups to comply with the upcoming emission norms.
